Arbitrary detention of members of FNLS in the toll booth of Chiapa de Corzo, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas during an informative flyering about the exhumation case of the minor Humberto Morales from the National Front in the Struggle for Socialism.

Situation:

According to the information sent by the Popular Committee of Human Rights of FNLS in Chiapas and the commission of Comité Cerezo México in Tuxtla Gutiérrez:

On June 29th 2017, members of the National Front in the Struggle for Socialism, members of the Popular Committee of Human Rights of FNLS in Chiapas and members of the Human Rights Committee of the Huastecas and Sierra Oriental were participating in an informative flyering session at the toll booth of Chiapa de Corzo in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

At 8:00 am, the police from Mando Único arrived and without any provocation, threw tear gas to disperse the protesters and arbitrarily detained:

It’s important to highlight that some were hit while being detained, including Roberto Mendoza (the most hit), Adriana Flores and Ollin Amaro from FNLS and Francisco Hernández human rights defender from CODHHSO. Without specific information available, three of those detained were transported to Chiapa de Corzo and the rest were transported to Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The reason for the flyering session is to share information about the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology’s exhumation and burial process. It is important to mention that a commision comprised of members of the National Front in the Struggle for Socialism (FNLS), the legal advisor of Humberto Morales’s family, Héctor Cerezo from Comité Cerezo Mexico, who is accompanied by two members of the Swedish Fellowship of Reconciliation (SweFOR), and Jorge Nava, U.N. High Commissioner representative in Mexico, were present during the exhumation of Humberto Morales’s body and throughout the studies conducted by the Semefo of Tuxtla to determine his cause of death. In addition, they are concluding Humberto Morales’s exhumation procedure.

Due to this situation, we demand that Mexican authorities:

  • Take immediate appropriate actions to guarantee the security and physical and psychological integrity of those detained.
  • Complete an immediate, exhaustive and impartial investigation about the situation, that the results of the investigation be made public and that those responsible be brought to justice.
  • In general, that their actions follow the International Agreements and Conventions of human rights that are signed and ratified by Mexico.

To the national and international human rights organizations:

  • To the extent of their external powers, express your concern about the gravity of the situation and insist that the Mexican government attend to the demands set forth.

Sincerely, on behalf of the organizations
Francisco Cerezo Contreras
Coordinator of Comité Cerezo México
